Malbork - biggest medieval castle in Europe
The brick castle of Malbork was the seat of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order and the biggest structure of that type in medieval Europe. It is registered on the UNESCO's World Heritage List.
The castle is encircled by defensive walls with gates and towers. The Grand Master's palace is believed to be the top achievement of the late-Gothic style. The representative summer refectory is the most attractive chamber in the castle interiors.
Magnate's castle Nowy Wiśnicz
An interesting combination of Gothic, Renaissance and baroque styles, the castle of Nowy Wiśnicz used to be the residence of the magnate Kmita and Lubomirski families, well-rooted in the region of Malopolska.
The castle combines features of defensive and residential architecture with picturesque landscape. Today the exhibition arranged in the castle interiors shows us its history as well as the process of its reconstruction. One can see the sarcophagus of Stanislaw Lubomirski, copper and brass utensils, and miniature models of residences from the Malopolska region.
Sanok - Poland's largest skansen
The oldest part of the city still has its original medieval urban layout. The castle houses the regional museum with a fine collection of icons. Poland's largest skansen, considering the number of exhibits, was arranged 1.5 kilometers north of the centre.
It is also Poland's best open-air museum with about 100 traditional buildings (18th-20th cc.) such as farm houses, windmills, mills and Orthodox and Unite churches. It provides insight into the culture of ethnic groups from Polish-Ukrainian borderland, once living in the eastern Carpathians and the Carpathian foothills.
Biskupin and Wenecja - settlement built thousands years ago
Biskupin is a fortified lake village built around 700 BC by a tribe of the Lusatian culture. This Iron Age village was built on a flat island and surrounded by a barricade consisting of wooden framework filled with earth and sand.
The famous Biskupin excavations are located on a peninsula encircled by lakes and swamps. The educational archaeological fair is held annually in September. The museum pavilion offers a permanent historical display. In the nearby village of Wenecja is a narrow-gauge railway museum.
Zamość - Jewel of Polish Renaissance
The Old Town complex (16th/17th cc.) is placed on UNESCO's World Heritage list. The city's urban layout was designed to copy the plans of an ideal Italian urban pattern. Zamość is the best-preserved Renaissance town in Poland.
Swołowo and Kluki - Chequered Land
This name is often given to the region of Central Pomerania stretching between Łeba and Darłowo. The rural architecture here is dominated by timber-framed constructions. Some 2,500 buildings of that type, erected between the 16th and 20th centuries, are preserved in the region.
The village of Swołowo from the list of Europe's cultural heritage is a real showpiece of the chequered land, but timbered-framed buildings can also be seen in Zalesie, Duninów, Objazda as, well as in the skansen of Kluki.
Zielona Góra - Grape Harvest Feast
The town lies on the historical Wrocław - Szczecin route. The Old Town Square contains a formerly wooden town hall with slightly leaning tower, which received a neoclassical appearance during remodeling works carried out in the 17th and 19th centuries.
