Positioned in the middle of the Balkan Peninsula and controlling the route from central Europe towards Asia Minor, Serbia is today a strange mixture of different influences.
It combines the temperament of the South with the dignity of the North, the easy living of the East with an effort towards integration with Europe in the West. Serbia has been hiding a historical and architectural heritage encountering just rarely. Many Roman sites had been flourishing throughout ages here. You will find medieval fortresses everywhere along the roads and will be astonished by the unbelievable density of the orthodox monasteries disseminated throughout the country.
Serbia is a multireligious country. The dominant religion is Orthodox Christianity, but there are also numerous adherents of Islam, Catholic Christianity and Protestant Christianity.
Tourism in Serbia is mostly focused on the villages and mountains of the country. The most famous mountain resorts are Zlatibor, Kopaonik and the Tara. There are also many spas in Serbia, one the biggest of which is Vrnjačka Banja.
Serbia is offering a large fan of sport and tourist activities. Kayak, skiing, rafting, trekking are among the most developed.
